When you use CS3 as much as I do, you get tired of using menus so it is imperative that you learn a few essential Mac keyboard shortcuts in order to save your self time an headaches. I have listed below many of the keyboard shortcuts that I use daily. I have written next to each which program I specifically use the shortcut for or if it is applicable to the entire CS3.
a - direct select tool (CS3)
b - paint bush (CS3)
g - gradient or fill tool (CS3)
i - eye dropper (CS3)
k - slice tool (Photoshop)
l - lasso (Photoshop)
m - marquee select (Photoshop) or shape tool (Indesign/Illustrator)
p - pen tool (CS3)
s - stamp tool (Photoshop)
t - type tool (CS3)
u - shape tool (Photoshop)
v - select tool (CS3)
w - magic wand
z - zoom
apple + a = select all (CS3)
apple + b = text frame options (Indesign)
apple + c = copy (CS3)
d = apply black stroke (Indesign)
apple + d = place (Indesign) or deselect (Photoshop) - since this is already used for an important command in Photoshop, I have set up in my preferences to use apple + shift + d for the place command.
apple + e = export (Indesign)
apple + i = spellcheck (Indesign/ Illustrator)
apple + j = duplicate layer (Photoshop)
apple + n = new file (CS3)
shift/apple/n - new layer (CS3)
apple + o = open file (CS3)
apple + shift + o = open Bridge
apple + p = print (CS3)
apple + r = view rulers (CS3)
apple + s = save ( CS3 -- the most important shortcut!)
apple + t = transform (CS3)
apple + v = paste (CS3)
apple + x = cut (CS3)
shift + x = switch color from stroke to fill (Indesign/ Illustrator) in Photoshop, this simple switches the the selected colors from foreground to background
apple + w = close window
option + del = fill w/foreground color (Photoshop)
apple + del = fill w/background color (Photoshop)
apple + 0 = view full screen (CS3)
apple & + = zoom in (CS3)
apple & - = zoom out (CS3)
option & - = – (CS3)
apple + tab = brings up menu of all currently open programs
F5 - open brushes pallet (Photoshop)
F9 = show all windows currently open
F11 = move aside all windows currently open
Finally, don't forget to use the right mouse button. Depending on the tool currently being used, it will bring up a whole menu that applies to that tool so you don't have to go searching through the menus at top!
